Johnathan E. Ayscue

Ayscue, 37, was arrested on Saturday, November 14.

Police arrested a Lynchburg man over the weekend in connection with a fatal house fire that took place on Wards Road last week.

On November 13 at approximately 2:30 a.m., the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a house fire at the 5700 block of Wards Road in Evington, according to a statement released by the agency. The Campbell County Fire Marshall and Sheriff’s Office began a joint investigation into the incident after human remains were found in the house.

It was determined during the investigation that the remains found in the home, which was vacant and under renovation at the time of the fire, were those of 38-year-old Lynchburg resident Laura Allen.

Allen was involved in a romantic relationship with 37-year-old Johnathan E. Ayscue at the time of her death. The two were present in the trailer on the morning of the fire.

The investigation found that the death and fire were the result of foul play. Ayscue was arrested on Saturday, November 14, for the second-degree murder of Allen.

The investigation is ongoing, and according to the sheriff’s office additional charges will be forthcoming.
