17 businesses participated in Shop Small Saturday this weekend, an event offered by the Altavista Area Chamber of Commerce.
Shop Small Saturday is an annual event for the Chamber on the Saturday after Thanksgiving each year. Shoppers picked up passports which they used to collect stamps at participating businesses. Shoppers who collected at least nine stamps were eligible for a drawing for one of seven prizes or gift baskets held at 5:30 p.m. along with the town’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony next to the Staunton River Memorial Library.
“I want to give a shoutout to all of the businesses that generously donated their time and their merchandise to help make this a success,” Chamber Executive Director Grace Mattox said at the tree lighting ceremony.
Participating businesses included Crystal Bay Pools, The Vintage Rose-Vintage Shop, The Portrait Place, Blüm Skin Care, Main Street Shoppes, Altavista On Track, Village Barber Shop, Vista Pawn of Altavista, MAD Biddy's, Cyclin'Nutz LLC, Woodlane Antiques & Crafts LLC, The General Store and Inn, Bittersweet Antiques & More, River Valley Resources, Miller's Jewelry, Airabella Flowers & Gifts and Altavista Radio Shack Dealer.
Mattox also thanked Geraldine Kaufman and town employees for staging the tree lighting, and the Chamber and its board of directors before prize and gift basket winners were announced by Chamber Chair Romonda Davis.
Prizes included a toy helicopter and gift baskets from MAD Biddy’s, Bittersweet Antiques & More and Main Street Shoppes and gift baskets with assorted items from multiple local businesses.
“We truly appreciate you shopping local and shopping Altavista today,” Davis said.
