Williams Lumber Supply will be hosting a celebration of its 115-year anniversary on October 24 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The event will feature food, and those who plan to attend can register for the chance to win door prizes ahead of time. The store also has a few improvements to show off. Staff also said several vendors have expressed interest in setting up booths at the event.
Owner Joe Lunsford attributed the store’s longevity to the following:
“Carrying good, high-quality building supplies, and having what the public needed to build and repair. And the loyalty of our customers, the wonderful loyalty of the people in the community and the surrounding area that have supported us,” Lunsford said.
Store Manager Matt Faulconer said he’s proud of how long Williams Lumber has been open.
“I guess it’s a sense of local pride for sure,” Faulconer said.
Lunsford also said the store has been able to stay open for so long because of its employees, who he praised. He also added that many have worked in the store for decades.
“Matt can show you out there, three different people that worked here from 33 years to 52 years,” Lunsford said.
Faulconer likewise said the store’s employees were a major factor in its success.
“That has a lot to do with it,” Faulconer agreed.
Lastly, Lunsford said good camaraderie with one’s co-workers and a good sense of humor don’t hurt either, attributing the store’s longevity to “Liking the people you work with,” and, Lunsford said with a chuckle, “Being crazy enough to come up here every day.”
