The California Highway Patrol says a man lost his newly purchased Ford Mustang only an hour after driving it off the lot. Officers arrested him and impounded the car after he allegedly hit 139 mph on State Route 99.
According to CHP Modesto, a Specially Marked Patrol Vehicle clocked the Mustang GT speeding at 139 mph while weaving through traffic. Officers quickly pulled the driver over, ending his ownership experience almost as soon as it had begun.
Instead of celebrating his new Mustang, the driver ended the night in handcuffs. CHP says he had the car for roughly an hour before losing both his freedom and the vehicle. The Mustang was immediately impounded.
Authorities stressed that reckless high-speed driving threatens everyone on the road and said they will “take all measures” to stop it.
Fortunately, no one was hurt. While the situation could have ended far worse, the driver now has a story he’ll likely remember for years — one that jokes have already dubbed “Gone in Sixty Minutes.”
