Patrick Henry Family Services is proud to announce that CarePortal, a technology platform that connects vulnerable children and families to people who have something to give, has now met the needs of over 500 children and their families. This has happened because 51 different churches have partnered to fulfill over 200 requests in the Roanoke and Lynchburg region, since PHFS brought CarePortal to the region in early 2020.
CarePortal launched in Roanoke in February, Bedford in March, Lynchburg in June, and Amherst in August. CarePortal is launching in Campbell County in October with hopes to add Botetourt in January. Over 600 individual community and church responders have made an economic impact of over $165,000.
CarePortal needs are vetted by county Department of Social Services. The most requested needs include beds and bedding, clothing, cleaning or exterminator assistance, minor home or car repairs and help with utilities. Each need is tied to a child, leading to the strengthening of their family.
