A woman that was on the run in Campbell County is now in custody after an incident last Monday morning.

Officer J. L. Williams, Jr., Altavista Police Department, was in a vehicle pursuit with the suspect, Crystal Meyers Torrence, 40, and arrested her on Route 29 near English Tavern. Williams says he tried to make a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle when a pursuit began. The chase ended on Wards Road near Davis Fruit Stand.

She was taken into custody and charges are pending. One of the charges is Felony Elude.

Deputies from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office said they were investigating an incident in the 6600 block of Bear Creek Road earlier that day and discovered that Torrence had several active warrants for her arrest.

She was able to escape custody and fled on foot to a nearby wooded area near the 6600 block of Bear Creek Road. The K-9 Unit reported to the scene to help with the search. She was on foot for several hours and came out on Red House Road where she stole a vehicle.

According to Captain Jeff Rater, Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, Torrence is suspected of stealing a white Chevy Tahoe with Virginia tags, the last 4 digits reading 6931. “The vehicle was quite noticeable with a missing right hubcap that helped in identifying it,” he says.
