Virginia is pushing hard to distribute COVID-19 vaccines even though doses have been slow to arrive in some areas.
The Central Virginia Health District announced today that it would be moving into phase 1b of the statewide vaccination plan.
For the past several weeks the vaccine has only been available to healthcare workers and residents of longterm care facilities in the Central Virginia region. It will now be available to individuals with medical conditions that make them especially vulnerable to COVID-19, individuals who are 65 or older, various essential workers including teachers, law enforcement officers, fire and rescue personnel and mail carriers.
Individuals who qualify for the vaccine in phase 1b can register to receive it at www.cvhd.org or by calling 434-477-5965.
CVHD has warned that the vaccine waiting list is long, and cannot guarantee how long wait times will be.
The Union Star will continue to cover the rollout of the vaccine. Look out for more updates on phase 1b.
