Mrs. Bettie Ghoston Porter, age 65 of Brookneal, passed away on May 18, 2021 in Lynchburg. She was the daughter of the late Marilla Jane Gaines Ghoston.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Porter; brothers, Lonnie Ghoston and Larry Ghoston.
She is survived by her children, Jennifer Copeland, Sara Ghoston, Henry Ghoston (Veronica), Jessica Ghoston, all of Brookneal, Sgt. Major Russell Copeland, Jr. of Fort Polk, LA, Tara McElhaney (Mark) of Ashburn, VA and Angela Porter of Lynchburg; five grandchildren, Christopher Copeland (Angel) of Concord, Marcus Copeland, and Lazarus Moss of Brookneal, Tamiyah McElhaney of Ashburn and Jasmine Copeland of Seattle, Washington; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Copeland, Jr. of Altavista and Taylor Marie Copeland of Concord; one sister, Frankie Copeland of Alexandria; sisters-in-law, Ruby Porter and Elizabeth Gilliam of Brookneal, Anna Walker, Mabel Porter and Mattie Davis, all of Lynchburg; brothers-in-law, Dave Porter of Brookneal, Gene Davis of Aspen and George Porter of Farmville; aunt, Marshia Brogdon of Lynchburg; uncles, John Ghoston of Brookneal, and Duke Ghoston of Phenix; devoted cousin, Charles Brogdon of Lynchburg; devoted friends, Sharon Thomas of Madison Heights, Joyce Evans of Brookneal, Lona Younger of Naruna, and Gloria Jackson of Maryland; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Jeffress Funeral Home Chapel in Brookneal with interment in Springhill Baptist Church Cemetery in Brookneal.
