Rodney Lee Childress, 53, of 2844 Covered Bridge Road, Gladys died Monday, December 28, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Stacy Reamey Childress.
He was born July 3, 1967 in Lynchburg, a son of Vera Callahan Childress of Gladys and the late Ronnie Lee Childress. He was an employee of Centra Health and former employee of Halls Garage of Gladys. Rodney was a member of the former Swan Creek Baptist Church, Gladys. He enjoyed spending time with his family, collecting and working on old trucks.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one daughter, Kirstin Childress Francis and her husband, Nick of Gladys; One Granddaughter, Harlyn Leigh Francis; one brother, Calvin S. Childress and his wife, Phaba of Gladys; two sisters, Deborah C. Seamster and her husband, Eddie and Cynthia C. Lindsey and her husband, Robbie all of Gladys; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Serena Kay Childress; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Childress; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Callahan.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Gladys by the Rev. Brad Hendrix and Merle Yoder with interment to follow in Swan Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Gladys.
Viewing of Rodney will be available 12:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Finch & Finch, Inc. Funeral & Cremation Service, Altavista.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
