Oklahoma Boy Defies Odds: 10-Year-Old Quarterback and Point Guard Told Eye Was “Irreparable” Sees 20/20 and Keeps Playing Sports

Oklahoma Boy Irreparable

Angel Carter shared that her 10-year-old eldest son, Royal Lee, has an eyesight problem which is probably irreparable.

Royal is a football player who plays quarterback and linebacker positions.

Royal Lee is already making a name for himself, excelling in the football field and the math classroom.

He is a versatile weapon for his youth football team and plays two of the toughest positions on the field, quarterback and linebacker.

He shows the leadership and arm strength as a quarterback and uses his instincts and toughness to stop the run as a hard-hitting linebacker. His ability to understand the game from both sides of the ball makes him a true student of football.

Royal Lee is so damn smart. His grade never goes below 105% in math.

10-Year-Old Quarterback’s Eye Is Irreparable Yet Keeps Playing Sports

Royal Lee is teaching his community a powerful lesson in resilience after being told by doctors that a serious eye condition is likely “irreparable.”

He recently received difficult medical news.

According to his mother, Angel Carter, doctors explained that Royal’s brain has essentially stopped using one of his eyes.

They described the condition as probably “never repairable” and warned that therapy might only cause more pain. The news was devastating for his mother.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Carter shared that she cried all day at work.

I cried all day at work (when he wasn’t around of course). Because that’s what mamas do. We carry it so they don’t have to.

However, when Carter got home, it was Royal who lifted her spirits.

He looked at his mom and matter-of-factly explained his perspective. He focused on the positive that he could still get his driver’s license and, most importantly, continue playing the sports he loves.

I see fine. I’m 20/20 with both eyes. She said I can still get my license and play sports. It’s not bad. I’ve never used that eye anyway.

In an instant, Carter’s worry was replaced with admiration.

Despite the prognosis, Royal refuses to see himself as limited. He has the heart of a leader and proves that his greatest strength isn’t just his athletic ability, it’s his vision for his own future.

Carter wrote that nothing about him is limited, not his vision, not his future, and not his heart.
