The William Campbell Generals opened their 2019 season on the grid iron with a 28-10 victory over the visiting Staunton River Golden Eagles on Friday night. Quarterback
Jermiah Smith led the Generals offensive attack completing 7 of 15 for 98 yards including a scoring strike to receiver RaShawn Stevens, who had two receptions for 56 yards. The Generals defensive unit suffocated The Golden Eagles Wing-T offense all evening with solid performances by junior Zekeya Townes, who wreaked havoc with five tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.
Jonathan Hicks led the team with ten tackles while Junior Solorio added six in the winning effort. After Staunton River tied the score at 7-7 late in the first quarter, Smith who also finished the game with 185 yards rushing and two more scores would take over and roll to a convincing 28-10 season opening win.
The Generals play their next game on Friday night at home against Central Lunenburg, kickoff is set for 7 pm.
