Philadelphia Sports Radio Host Mike Missanelli Arrested After Domestic Incident in Lower Merion, PA

Mike Missanelli arrested

Philadelphia sports radio personality Mike Missanelli was arrested early Wednesday morning in Lower Merion Township following an alleged domestic incident involving his fiancée, according to local police and court documents.

Authorities say Lower Merion police were dispatched just after midnight after receiving information about a 911 hang-up call from a residence in the Wynnewood section of the township.

When officers arrived at the home, they made contact with Missanelli, who reportedly described a heated argument with his fiancée that escalated into what he called a “scuffle.”

During his initial conversation with the police, he also claimed that his fiancée struck him in the chest during the dispute.

However, investigators say the fiancée gave a different account of what happened. According to the criminal complaint, she told officers the argument began over issues related to their engagement and escalated when Missanelli allegedly slapped her in the face with an open hand.

Police noted that she had visible injuries, including a cut on her forehead, swelling on her ear, and what appeared to be fresh blood at the scene. Officers also reported that Missanelli did not appear to have any visible injuries.

Following the investigation at the scene, Missanelli was taken into custody. Court records indicate he has been charged with simple assault and harassment. He was scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on April 22.

Missanelli, age 70, is a well-known figure in Philadelphia sports media. Over the years, he built a long career in local radio, including time at 97.5 The Fanatic, 94 WIP, and other Philadelphia stations.

He previously worked as a writer for the Philadelphia Inquirer before transitioning into sports talk radio, where he became one of the more recognizable voices in the city’s sports scene. Most recently, he had been contributing to On Pattison, a Philadelphia sports news platform.

In response to the arrest, On Pattison issued a statement saying its parent company, Fideri News Network, became aware of the allegations through media reports and, given the seriousness of the charges, Missanelli would not be participating in the platform’s podcast during the legal process.

Police have not released additional details beyond what is included in the criminal complaint, and the investigation remains ongoing. Officials have not indicated whether further charges could be filed, and no attorney information for Missanelli was immediately available in court records.

The case has drawn attention in Philadelphia due to Missanelli’s long-standing presence in sports broadcasting. His voice has been associated with major local sports coverage for decades, making the allegations particularly notable among listeners and followers of Philadelphia media.

As the legal process moves forward, the matter will be reviewed in court, where both sides are expected to present their accounts of the incident. For now, Missanelli remains charged and is awaiting his scheduled hearing later this month.

The incident adds to a growing list of high-profile cases in the region that have placed renewed focus on domestic incident response procedures and how allegations involving public figures are handled by both law enforcement and media organizations.
