Port Barre, LA — The Port Barre community is mourning the loss of Lucas Paul Doucet, a 14-year-old student who passed away peacefully at his home on June 18, 2026.

Lucas had just graduated from the 8th grade at Port Barre High School on May 18, marking a milestone his family and friends say he was deeply proud of.

Born on November 9, 2011, in Opelousas, Louisiana, Lucas was remembered by loved ones as a kind and gentle young man who left an impression on everyone he met.

Port Barre High School shared the news on social media, offering condolences to the family and noting that counselors would be available Monday at noon for students who needed support or someone to talk to.

A Life Full of Activity and Heart

Lucas was known throughout Port Barre for his love of sports and the outdoors. He played football for Port Barre and was a proud member of the Port Barre 14U Pony All Stars baseball team, where teammates and coaches say he brought energy and team spirit to every game.

He also played bass drum in the Port Barre Middle School Band, an achievement that gave him a great deal of pride.

Outside of school activities, Lucas enjoyed hunting and fishing, hobbies that gave him a connection to nature and time spent with family and friends.

Those who knew him describe a well-rounded young man who balanced athletics, music, and outdoor life with ease.

Lucas is survived by his parents, Galen and Cassidy Doucet of Port Barre, and Tracie Wheaton and James Gonzales of Torbert. He leaves behind siblings Wyatt and Anthony Gonzales, and sisters Finlee, Weslyn, and Rosalie Doucet.

He was also loved by his grandparents, Jessie and Kim Doucet of Port Barre and Lora and Kim Guidry of Krotz Springs, along with his great-grandfather Wayne Stanford. A large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins across Louisiana also mourns his passing.
