Reno man charged with murder in Lassen County double homicide after highway shooting

The Lassen County District Attorney’s Office has formally charged a Reno man with two counts of murder in connection with a double homicide along Highway 395.

Isacc Pedroza, 39, entered a not-guilty plea during his Monday arraignment and is expected to return to court next Wednesday. Prosecutors accuse Pedroza of personally firing a gun and transporting an assault weapon during the Dec. 6 incident.

CHP officers in Quincy reported that two vehicles carrying several passengers from Reno were stopped on the shoulder of Highway 395 near the Long Valley Agricultural Inspection Station around 9 a.m. when a confrontation broke out. CHP said one of their officers, who was patrolling nearby, arrived just moments before the shooting.

After shots were fired, the officer detained everyone at the scene and tried to provide medical aid to the victims. Despite those efforts, a 39-year-old man and a 17-year-old teenager died from their injuries.

CHP said several agencies responded to help secure the area while the highway was shut down for the investigation.

According to the district attorney’s office, the incident was not connected to road rage, gang activity, or law enforcement.

The case remains active, and authorities ask anyone with information to contact Quincy CHP at 530-283-1100.
