Suspect apprehended following homicide in Gloucester County

Deputies apprehended a suspect Thursday morning after a homicide in Gloucester County.

Officials say deputies responded to the 3000 block of George Washington Memorial Highway around 9 a.m. for a report of a person found dead from gunshot wounds. The suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived.

The Mathews County Sheriff’s Office received a BOLO alert indicating the suspect might be traveling toward their area. Because authorities were unsure of the suspect’s exact location, all public schools and county buildings went into secure mode.

After an extensive search, deputies located and arrested the suspect in Lancaster County.
