A tragic shooting in Mankato, Minnesota, claimed the life of 27-year-old Muridi Hassan Hussein, prompting swift action from local authorities. Police have apprehended 23-year-old A’Quan Kaishaid Laurence Thornton in connection with the fatal incident. According to the City of Mankato Government, officers responded to a distress call around 9:30 a.m. and found Hussein inside a vehicle on the 1600 block of Madison Avenue.

Investigators believe the shooting occurred in the 400 block of Holly Lane. After being shot, Hussein reportedly drove to a parking lot off Star Street, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The investigation remains active as authorities work to uncover the full details surrounding the crime. The Mankato Police Department is urging residents to share any information or surveillance footage that could aid the case. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and the Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force are also assisting in the investigation.

Thornton was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, and police recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the crime. Authorities have confirmed that the suspect in custody is the sole individual responsible, assuring the public that there is no ongoing threat to community safety.
