Authorities say a 17-year-old driver faces DWI charges after a rollover crash early Monday on Highway 7 in Chanhassen.
According to the Carver County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the scene and found the vehicle overturned. Medics evaluated the teen and transported him to a hospital. His preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol content of .165—more than twice Minnesota’s legal limit.
In a statement on social media, the Sheriff’s Office said impaired driving and speed “remain two of the leading factors in serious crashes,” especially among young drivers. Despite ongoing public safety campaigns, deputies noted that some drivers continue to make choices that “put lives at risk and will be met with serious consequences.”
DWI-related charges for the teen are pending.
The Sheriff’s Office urged young drivers to take the incident as a warning, emphasizing that decisions made behind the wheel can have life-altering outcomes for both drivers and the community.
