Ross Petras, a beloved father, husband, and friend known throughout the F3 fitness community as “One Star,” passed away unexpectedly at the age of 49.
His sudden death has left a wave of grief among family, friends, and the wider network of people who knew him through F3 Waxhaw, a men’s workout group he helped build from the ground up.
This past weekend, 116 members of the F3 community, including Petras’s own son, gathered to honor his memory at Bushwood, a workout site he was instrumental in starting.
Fittingly, the group followed one of his favorite rules for the day: collars required, sleeves strictly forbidden. The workout, led by a fellow member known as Tanyatine, became a powerful tribute to a man who left a lasting mark on everyone around him.
A Circle of Trust and a Lasting Message
After the workout, the group came together for what F3 calls a Circle of Trust, where Petras’s wife, his three children, and close friends and family joined to share memories and grieve together.
It was during this gathering that his wife offered words that have since spread widely across social media, capturing the way Ross approached life.
She encouraged everyone to “live like Ross,” urging people to leave nothing unsaid, wear the crazy outfits, get on stage and sing loud, dance boldly, and be there for the people who matter.
Her message continued with calls to plan lunches with friends, be a hero to your children, show loved ones the world, and book the adventures that often get put off. She mentioned that “Die with Zero” was a book Ross lived by, and that he embraced taking hikes, reading, golfing, napping without guilt, and simply being the friend who always makes time for others.
Her words have resonated deeply, not just within the F3 community but among the broader circle of people who loved Ross Petras.
Friends Remember a Man Who Showed Genuine Kindness
Friends outside the F3 group have also shared tributes online. One family friend recalled hearing the devastating news and described Petras’s wife’s words as something too meaningful not to share, saying they hoped Ross’s legacy would inspire others to live with the same intention he did.
Another close friend, who had traveled and worked alongside Petras for years, described him as someone who made every gathering feel like family.
She recalled his humor, his nicknames for friends, and the way he made people better simply by being present. She said it felt almost impossible to accept that someone so full of life was gone, and that she would miss him deeply.
As tributes continue to pour in, the F3 community has vowed to keep Petras’s spirit alive through the very brotherhood he helped build.
Members say they intend to honor him not just in words, but in how they choose to live, with boldness, kindness, and a refusal to leave things unsaid.
Ross Petras is survived by his wife, his three children, and a community that says it will never forget him.
