A heartbreaking murder in a quiet Old Hickory neighborhood has left a family grieving and investigators searching for answers after Margarita Castro was shot and killed on the evening of January 12, 2026, while sitting in her car just after returning home on Rehnea Drive in Wilson County, Tennessee.
Deputies from the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office arrived around 10 p.m. and found Castro fatally wounded inside her vehicle.
Authorities have described the shooting as an isolated incident, with strong signs pointing to a targeted attack rather than random violence.
No other details about possible motives have been released publicly, but the focused nature of the crime suggests someone may have been waiting for her.
The investigation took a key turn when detectives reviewed surveillance footage from the area. It captured a vehicle speeding away from the scene in the moments right after the shooting. Investigators believe the killer was either driving this car or riding as a passenger.
The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office recently released photos of the vehicle to the public in hopes that someone would recognize it and come forward with information.
Journalist Nick Beres from NewsChannel 5 in Nashville shared the appeal widely on social media. He posted:
“CAN YOU HELP? Detectives in Wilson County, TN think this car is speeding away in the moments after a murder — with the killer either driving or a passenger.”

Beres highlighted the details of the case and urged people to share the post to reach more eyes.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with tips to contact them right away. This includes information about the vehicle, such as who owns it, where it might be now, or any recent sightings, as well as suspect descriptions, security camera video, dash cam footage from nearby roads, or any other clues tied to that night.
Lead investigator Detective Sergeant Travis Donnell can be reached at 615-444-1459, extension 252, or by email at [email protected].
As of early March 2026, no arrests have been announced, and the case remains very active. The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office continues to follow leads, but they need the community’s help to move forward.
A tragedy like this shakes a neighborhood, and catching the person responsible is the best way to bring some sense of justice and closure.
If you saw something suspicious on January 12 or recognize the vehicle in the released photos, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Your tip could make all the difference.
