The community is buzzing about one of the Brookneal Chamber of Commerce’s most anticipated events…Main Street Strong-Tour the Town. The event will be held on Friday, Aug. 23, from 5-8 p.m.

Many businesses along Main Street in Brookneal will stay open past normal closing hours or have tables set up out front. Any businesses in town that want to participate can set up a table.

Visitors arrive in town to walk down the street to visit each table. Many of them offer free gifts or door prizes to register for.

This is the third year for Main Street Strong and the chamber encourages the public to get out and explore Brookneal and support the local businesses.

It was originally scheduled for August 27 (a Tuesday), but at the recent chamber meeting, it was decided that the Main Street businesses would prefer it to be on a Friday so more people would come out.

Chamber member Myra Trent from Red Hill explains, “Each participating business will have their own back to school specials and school supplies will be collected. They can be dropped off at the Town Council meeting room or individual businesses can collect their own and bring to the Town Council meeting room.”

She further adds, “We need all businesses who want to participate to let the chamber know and businesses who are not on Main Street, we want you too! Businesses not on Main Street can have a 10x10 space and take part in this wonderful back to school event! They can contact the Chamber at do not have to be a member of the Brookneal Chamber to participate, however membership is encouraged. We want to grow our opportunities as a town and we need your input and help to grow.”
