Reports of student bullying in the Willowick area have sparked widespread discussion among parents and community members, following an anonymous post shared on a local Facebook neighborhood group.
The conversation quickly grew as residents weighed in with personal experiences, concerns about school safety, and differing views on how the issue should be addressed.
The original post, shared under the Willowick Neighborhood News group, described a troubling situation at Royalview School shortly after the school year began.
The anonymous participant claimed their child experienced bullying within the first few days of attendance and also mentioned incidents involving neighborhood children.
The post expressed frustration over the situation and called out a lack of response, setting off a wave of comments from other parents.
Katie Dawson shared a strong reaction based on her own past experience with bullying involving her daughter.
She wrote, “My daughter was bullied on the bus years ago. I walked in the bus and told the bus driver to handle it or I would handle her. Told the kid to show her mom where my house was. She stopped.”
She added that she believes parents need to take more responsibility for their children’s behavior, saying, “Parents need to be held accountable for the evil spawn they raise.”
Another commenter, Erica Brooke, shared a more general perspective, writing simply, “I homeschool. Kids are mean,” reflecting a belief that bullying is widespread regardless of school setting.
Anonymous participant 730 said they removed their daughter from Royalview earlier this year due to bullying issues and dissatisfaction with how the situation was handled.
“It was the best decision I’ve ever made,” they wrote, adding that their child is now happier at a different school. They also mentioned financial assistance programs such as EdChoice that helped make private schooling possible.
Anonymous participant 159 responded by asking for more information about the alternative school mentioned, showing concern as their own child is expected to attend Royalview next year. The discussion highlighted how uncertainty about school environments is influencing family decisions about education.
Some parents pointed out that school transfers within the district had improved their situation.
Anonymous participant 809 said they moved their child to another school after feeling unsupported by staff. They noted that while their own child had not experienced issues since the transfer, they had still heard concerns from others.
Tom Tekavec reflected on how attitudes toward discipline have changed over time, writing, “How times have changed. I remember having problems with kids growing up, my father sat me down and said ‘son we don’t start it we finish it.’” He added humorously that such an approach would not be acceptable today.
More critical views of the school system were also shared. Casey Como commented, “It is disgusting! Parents are not the same. They seem to have no control over what their kids do behind their backs,” while also pointing to concerns in nearby middle schools.
Anonymous participant 521 responded by noting that bullying is not a new issue, writing that it also occurred in the 1970s and 1980s in Willowick, suggesting the problem has long existed in the community.
Other commenters expressed frustration with the district’s leadership and school environment. William Cranium criticized administrators and school policies, calling for major changes and urging parents to reconsider public schooling decisions.
Meanwhile, some parents shared their own choices to move children to private education. LavenderKoala1881 said switching schools was the best decision for their family, citing issues with accountability and student behavior. They wrote that lack of discipline had contributed to ongoing problems within the school environment.
Michelle Wisdom shared a detailed personal experience involving bullying on a school bus, describing a situation where her child was later punished after reacting physically to harassment.
She wrote that her son “was the only one that got in trouble,” highlighting frustration with how incidents are handled.
EmpatheticToucan3224 also described past bullying incidents involving their daughter at Royalview, stating she “would come home with bruises on her chest” and emphasizing that the problem has existed for years.
The discussion continues to circulate within the Willowick community, reflecting ongoing concerns from parents about student safety, school accountability, and how bullying incidents are addressed across the district.
