Colton James Thompson, 9, passed away on April 20, 2026, at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, classmates, and all who had the joy of knowing him.
Born on March 14, 2017, Colton was the son of Heath Thompson and Kacie Chapman Holland. From an early age, he was known for his bright spirit, lively energy, and curious nature.
He attended William Tell Elementary School as a first-grade student and was also a member of Heritage Hills Baptist Church in Santa Claus, where he was surrounded by a caring community.
Colton was a typical young boy with a big personality and an even bigger imagination. He loved sports and spent much of his time enjoying baseball, basketball, and golf.
At home, he often brought laughter and energy into the room, especially when practicing wrestling moves inspired by his favorite entertainers alongside his beloved dog, Cane.
His playful personality and sense of humor made everyday moments memorable for those around him.
He also had a creative and entrepreneurial side that stood out. Colton enjoyed buying, selling, and trading bicycles, always finding ways to make his ideas work. At one point, he had built a collection of nearly ten bicycles, each with its own story.
He was known for his determination and resourcefulness, traits that made him stand out even at a young age.
Family time was especially important to Colton. He looked forward to trips to Florida to visit relatives, where fishing adventures became a cherished tradition. Those moments created lasting memories that his family will hold close forever.
He shared a strong bond with his brothers, Harold and Elvis Meserve, and enjoyed the company of his close friends Braxton, Collin, Abel, and Charles, who were considered some of his best buddies.
Colton is survived by his mother, Kacie Chapman Holland; his father, Heath Thompson; his brothers; his grandparents, Harold and Pam Chapman, Phillip Thompson and Carla, and Kim Gerlach; and his great-grandparents, Terry and Anita Hunt and Bob Thompson.
He is also remembered lovingly by many extended family members and friends whose lives he touched in his short time here.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM CDT on April 23, 2026, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Visitation will take place from 3:00 PM until the time of the service.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Riley Hospital for Children in honor of Colton’s care and support during his time there.
Messages of condolence have poured in from the community, reflecting the impact Colton had on those around him.
One message shared, “Sending so much love to this family and all of Colton’s friends. Life is just not fair sometimes,” capturing the grief felt by many.
