A recent incident reported in the Falconer Street area has raised growing concerns among residents after an alleged assault involving a group of high school students.
The situation, shared by The Post-Journal’s Post on social media, has prompted a wave of public reaction, with community members calling for stronger safety measures, increased police presence, and greater accountability.
According to the original post, a city mother has stepped forward asking local authorities to take action and improve policing in the Falconer Street neighborhood.
The concern centers around youth safety and repeated incidents that residents feel are becoming more frequent in the area.
Community members quickly responded in the comment section with a range of opinions, reflecting both concern and frustration. Butera’s Towing suggested a return to more visible policing strategies, stating,
“Maybe the police can have a mobile command like they used to, have it staffed like before school, after school, and people can call them for the parks that have the most problems, staff it at the parks certain hours.”

Others focused on parental responsibility and community involvement. Cindy Melquist Joneson commented,
“I would think that this should be at the top of the list regarding safety of young folks. Parents will need to get together. And dad’s step up I hope. Fingers crossed.” Her message reflected a belief that stronger family involvement may be part of the solution.

Sue Genco also emphasized the need for increased presence in local neighborhoods, writing,
“More community involvement and police presence are needed in our neighborhoods, especially around schools, to ensure kids’ safety.”

Some commenters pointed to deeper societal and behavioral issues. John Mescall stated, “It begins at home, and if you can’t teach your kids to act properly someone else will one way or another,” highlighting concerns about upbringing and discipline.
Other residents expressed frustration with the justice system and enforcement. Vickie Dame Gorton shared a lengthy opinion, criticizing what she sees as a lack of meaningful consequences. She wrote,
The problem is too, there is no repercussions for these kids or even adults.. adults get in trouble and they get arrested, they go to jail for a night if that, long enough for a shower, nap and a meal.. leave them in jail, some of these kids are learning from their parents, some of the others, no matter how involved the parents are, they still go in the wrong direction and live a life of nothing but trouble!! Shame on the justice system we have, no penalty for bad behavior! How many more people need beat, shot or killed before the justice system decides enough is enough!! This is the real world and these judges shame on you, maybe they would think twice when it happens to one of their family members!!

I see people always blaming the police, once they arrest them, it’s out of their hands, so stop blaming the police departments!
Good for you to the mom for taking a stand, more people need to do this, it may not do any good until they get a better justice system!!
Several commenters called for more structured community action. Ashlee Riley urged residents to attend local meetings, saying,
“This is why more people need to show up to the board meetings and town meetings or nothing will ever be resolved more voices need to speak up sadly.”

Others focused on immediate safety concerns in the neighborhood. Kerissa Johnson commented,
“That whole area and especially the park could definitely use some policing or security guards or something yes I totally agree with this mother.”

There were also suggestions for alternative interventions, including community service programs. Emily Vän Gerspäch wrote,
“Make the kids do community service since they wanna act like criminals.”

Meanwhile, Linda Kramer expanded the concern beyond Falconer Street, adding, “Not only Faulkner Street, but Liberty and Lincoln Street,” suggesting that similar issues may be affecting surrounding areas as well.
The incident has clearly struck a nerve within the community, sparking a broader conversation about youth behavior, parental responsibility, law enforcement presence, and neighborhood safety.
While details of the alleged assault remain limited, the public response highlights a strong desire for action and long-term solutions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
