AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. — The search for 4-year-old Javeayah Harris is now in its fourth day, with hundreds of law enforcement officers still combing fields, woods and neighborhoods around Hillsboro Street and Ridgecrest Road.
The girl was last seen around 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, and has not been found despite thousands of acres being covered by ground crews, helicopters, and drones.
What we know about her disappearance
Javeayah’s mother, Michilae Herring, told a deputy at the scene that the child went missing from the family home. Her father, Johmarea Harris, said he had been at a laundromat and arrived back around 9 p.m. to find officers already searching the area.
Aiken County Sheriff Marty Sawyer said investigators believe, based on the information gathered so far, that Javeayah may have wandered off on her own. She was reportedly last seen playing near a chicken coop before she vanished.
The case was entered into the National Crime Information Center as a missing child. Authorities say her parents are cooperating fully with investigators, and no suspects have been named.

Search efforts and community response
More than 200 specialized officers have taken part in the search, which has now covered over 3,000 acres. Agencies involved include the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the South Carolina Highway Patrol, and several neighboring county sheriff’s offices.
Crews have used drones and a helicopter to scan wooded areas, while deputies canvass homes and stop vehicles leaving the Shiloh Heights area for questioning.
Officials say they are not accepting volunteer searchers at this time, explaining that untrained people could accidentally destroy evidence or overlook important clues. Sheriff Sawyer, visibly emotional during a press conference Thursday, asked residents to keep praying, to check their own properties, including sheds and decks, and to keep sharing Javeayah’s photo across social media.
An earlier report that Javeayah might be nonverbal or autistic was investigated and found to be inaccurate. Her family says she communicates well and is comfortable talking with people she meets.
No AMBER Alert has been issued because the case does not currently meet South Carolina’s legal criteria, which requires evidence of an abduction. SLED officials say they are ready to activate an alert immediately if new evidence changes that.
Investigators are also asking anyone with photos or videos taken in the area between June 15 and June 30 to submit them through the sheriff’s office tip portal.
Anyone who sees Javeayah is urged to call 911 right away. Tips can also be phoned in to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office at 803-502-5200.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and officials say every lead, no matter how small, is being followed up as the search continues into the holiday weekend.
