North Lauderdale, FL, Army Veteran Fatally Shot by Woman in Walmart Parking Space Dispute

A routine trip to a North Lauderdale Walmart ended in tragedy on Tuesday, June 30, when a verbal argument over a parking space escalated into a fatal shooting.

Bart Diguglielmo, a 62-year-old retired Army staff sergeant from Lauderhill, died at Broward Health Medical Center after being shot in the parking lot just before 12:30 p.m., according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of the Walmart located at 7900 West McNab Road, where deputies and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue medics found Diguglielmo suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

What the Video Shows

Investigators say the shooter and Diguglielmo were involved in a verbal altercation over a parking space in the Walmart lot before the shooting occurred. Cellphone and dashcam footage obtained by multiple news outlets captured much of the confrontation.

According to accounts of the video, the woman is seen getting out of her vehicle in a parking space before Diguglielmo approaches her.

She appears to point a handgun at him with one hand while holding a cellphone in the other as the two move around the lot. At one point, Diguglielmo is seen walking away from the woman before turning back toward her. She can be heard telling him to walk away moments before the gunshot is heard on the cellphone recording.

A separate angle described by Fox News Digital shows the pair arguing after a vehicle pulled out of a nearby parking space, with the woman backing away while pointing the handgun at Diguglielmo as he raises his hands. A witness, David Anderson, told CBS News Miami that he came upon the scene mid-confrontation, recalling that the woman was screaming and saying a lot of things as he approached.

Self-Defense Claim Under Investigation

The woman, who has not been publicly identified, stayed at the scene after the shooting, was detained for questioning, and told detectives she fired in self-defense. She was not immediately arrested.

Authorities have been careful not to weigh in on whether that claim holds up. The sheriff’s office has not released additional details about what led to the confrontation and has not said whether investigators believe the woman’s account. The case will be presented to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether the woman faces criminal charges.

Diguglielmo’s daughter, who goes by Amanda, spoke publicly about her father in the days after the shooting. She described him as a “good man” during a tearful interview, and told TheGrio she wanted people to remember him for who he truly was rather than how the incident has been portrayed in media coverage.

The shooting has drawn heavy reaction online, with commenters split between defending the woman’s right to protect herself and questioning whether the situation ever needed to turn deadly. Legal experts note that Florida’s self-defense laws, including its Stand Your Ground statute, will likely play a central role in how prosecutors evaluate the case.

For now, the investigation remains open, and no charges have been filed against the woman as detectives continue reviewing the video evidence and witness statements.
