A 47-year-old man is dead after a shooting outside an apartment complex in Cincinnati’s Walnut Hills neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Cincinnati Police Department.
Officers were called to the Kemper Lane Apartments in the 2500 block of Kemper Lane just after noon. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds near the front door of the building.
He was rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Police have since identified the victim as Gregory Taylor-Tolliver. Investigators say the shooting happened at the front entrance of the apartment building, though the circumstances that led up to it remain under investigation.
Suspect Taken Into Custody
Authorities say a suspect was also transported to a hospital following the shooting, though officials have not released details about that person’s condition or identity.
It is unclear at this time what relationship, if any, existed between the suspect and the victim, or what may have sparked the confrontation.
A video shared with a local television station appears to show the moments leading up to the shooting, though police have not commented publicly on its contents.
The Cincinnati Police Department is asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward and call investigators at 513-352-3542.
No further details have been released about a possible motive, and police say the investigation is ongoing. Detectives have not said whether additional charges are expected or when they anticipate closing the case.
Neighbors Say Violence Is Becoming Too Common
The shooting has left some nearby residents shaken, particularly those who live in a senior housing facility close to the apartment complex.
One longtime neighbor told a local news outlet that violent incidents at the property are becoming an unfortunately familiar occurrence, recalling a stabbing and another killing that happened at the same building in the past.
She said she is growing increasingly wary of the area and worried about her own safety, adding that she is now avoiding the apartment complex altogether.
Her comments reflect a broader frustration among residents who say the neighborhood has seen a string of violent incidents this year.
Walnut Hills, located just northeast of downtown Cincinnati, has experienced a mix of revitalization and ongoing safety concerns in recent years.
Local leaders have pointed to new business development and housing projects in the area, but incidents like Tuesday’s shooting highlight the challenges some pockets of the neighborhood continue to face.
Police have not indicated whether the shooting was random or targeted. Investigators are continuing to canvass the area for surveillance footage and witnesses who may have seen what happened before officers arrived.
This is a developing story, and police say updates will be provided as the investigation continues. Anyone with information, including footage of the incident, is encouraged to contact the Cincinnati Police Department.
Community members are also being urged to report any suspicious activity in the area as officers work to determine exactly what led to the deadly encounter outside the Kemper Lane Apartments.
