Cub Run Woman, Edith Vaughn, Found Dead Inside Tent at Edmonson County Campground

Kentucky State Police are investigating the death of a woman found unresponsive inside a tent at a popular outdoor recreation area in Edmonson County.

The incident was reported on the afternoon of Friday, May 30, 2026, drawing troopers to Dog Creek Recreation Area after local authorities raised concerns about a possible fatality.

KSP Post 03 received the call at approximately 12:00 p.m. from the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office, which had been alerted to a welfare concern at the site. Troopers responded and located an unconscious woman lying inside a green tent at the campground.

She was later identified as Edith Vaughn, 43, of Cub Run, Kentucky. The Hart County Coroner was called to the scene and pronounced Vaughn dead.

Dog Creek Recreation Area, situated within the Green River Lake area of south-central Kentucky, is a federally managed outdoor space popular with campers, hikers, and boaters throughout the warmer months.

The discovery drew attention from the surrounding community, with residents and area social media pages quickly sharing news of the incident.

Mitchell Logsdon, a local community member, shared the official KSP press release on Facebook, urging people not to jump to conclusions.

“There are so many rumors going around and 99% are just that, rumors,” he wrote, before posting the official statement from Kentucky State Police.

His post drew an outpouring of condolences and prayers from community members who expressed grief for Vaughn and her loved ones.

Investigation Remains Active

As of this report, the cause and manner of Vaughn’s death have not been released by authorities. Kentucky State Police have confirmed the investigation is ongoing and is being led by Trooper Devon Banaszak out of Post 03.

No additional suspects or persons of interest have been named publicly, and no criminal charges have been announced in connection with the death.

It remains unclear how long Vaughn had been at the campsite before the welfare check was initiated or who placed the original call prompting the sheriff’s office to respond.

Authorities have not yet indicated whether foul play is suspected, and the investigation is expected to continue as KSP works to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

News of Vaughn’s passing spread quickly through Hart and Edmonson County communities, with residents expressing sadness across social media.

The area around Cub Run, a small unincorporated community in Hart County, is tightly knit, and many in the region said they were heartbroken by the loss.

The K Country 105.7 FM WGRK radio station also shared the KSP press release on its Facebook page, helping spread the official information amid widespread speculation.
