Two 22-year-old women from Pennsylvania died Sunday night after their car ran off Route 55 in Deptford Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey, according to New Jersey State Police.

Police said Ayzia J. Toledo, 22, of Bristol, Pennsylvania, was driving south on Route 55 around 10:55 p.m. when she lost control of her vehicle.

The car veered left off the roadway, flipped over, and struck a tree just north of Exit 56A, which connects to Route 47. Toledo and her front seat passenger, Henrietta F. Carter, also 22, of Darby, Pennsylvania, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A third passenger who was riding in the back seat was taken to a hospital with injuries described as minor. Investigators have not indicated that any other vehicles were involved in the crash.

State police have not released additional details about the cause of the crash, though the roadway was reportedly wet at the time. The investigation remains ongoing.
