Houston, Texas, McGovern Medical School Mourns Dr. Stacey Hall, Pediatric PM&R Specialist and Mother

Dr. Stacey Hall, a beloved pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation physician at McGovern Medical School and UT Physicians in Houston, has died unexpectedly, leaving behind a community of grieving patients, families, students and colleagues.

A Career Devoted to Children With Disabilities

Dr. Hall served as an associate professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. She was board-certified and fellowship-trained in her field, and she built her career around treating pediatric patients facing some of the most challenging physical conditions a child can face.

Her clinical focus included:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Spasticity and dystonia management
  • Arthrogryposis
  • Myelomeningocele
  • Physical disabilities in children more broadly

She saw patients at the TIRR Outpatient Medical Clinic and the UT Physicians Pediatric Surgery clinic in the Texas Medical Center. Colleagues who worked alongside her described a physician who insisted on open and honest conversations with families and who worked to set realistic, achievable goals for every child in her care.

Remembered as a Mentor, Advocate, and Mother

Tributes poured in from colleagues, former patients and their families after news of her passing spread across social media. A statement shared by her workplace called her a trusted advocate, leader and teacher who was a constant source of support for patients, families and colleagues throughout her career.

The statement said she believed every child deserved the chance to reach their fullest potential, and that she worked tirelessly to remove barriers to care and secure the equipment and services her patients needed. It also noted that she was a generous educator who mentored students, trainees, therapists, and fellow physicians, meaning her influence will carry on through everyone she taught.

Away from the clinic, colleagues said Dr. Hall was devoted above all to her son, whom she spoke of with pride, and that she showed through her own life that success is measured as much by love for family as by professional achievement.

Former patients’ families echoed that sentiment online. One mother wrote that Dr. Hall had been the specialist who diagnosed her son with cerebral palsy back in 2018, and that she had remained a steady presence on his care team ever since, offering comfort during hard moments and encouragement to keep moving forward. Another former patient thanked her for always showing interest in her patients’ lives beyond the exam room, saying it was clear how much Dr. Hall loved the children she treated and wanted them to thrive.

Comments continued to arrive from former patients, coworkers, and community members across Instagram and Facebook in the hours after the announcement, many simply offering hearts and prayers alongside messages wishing her peace.

Dr. Hall’s colleagues said they intend to work as a team to make sure her patients continue receiving the support and care she was known for. Funeral and memorial details had not been publicly announced as of this report. Her family, friends, patients, and the broader Houston medical community continue to mourn her loss.
