Hudson, Wisconsin, is mourning the loss of Gavin Edward Svien, a 16-year-old Hudson High School student who died on July 9, 2026. Gavin was set to begin his junior year this fall and was known throughout his community for his warmth, humor, and dedication to the people around him.
Born on May 28, 2010, Gavin grew up surrounded by family and friends who describe him as a young man who brought joy wherever he went. Those who knew him say his bright smile and easygoing personality made him instantly likeable, and that his kindness left a lasting impression on classmates, coworkers, and neighbors alike.
Gavin worked at the Hudson Rod and Gun Club, a job that quickly became more than just employment. Through his time there, he developed a genuine love for the outdoors, learned to shoot trap, and built close friendships within the club’s community.
He also had a strong interest in working with his hands, often tinkering with power tools and looking for new things to fix or build.
A Life Full of Activity and Passion
At Hudson High School, Gavin was an active and enthusiastic athlete. He was part of the school’s swim and dive team and also played football, embracing both sports with energy and team spirit. Golf was another passion of his, and friends recall him spending relaxed afternoons on the course or enjoying peaceful days at the lake with people he loved.
Family members say Gavin approached every part of life, whether school, sports, or simple weekend plans, with genuine enthusiasm and a willingness to help others. That combination of energy and generosity is part of what made him such a well-loved figure in Hudson.
Gavin is survived by his mother, Jessica Svien, to whom he was deeply close, along with his uncle Paul Svien, Paul’s wife Jennifer, and their children Allison and Olivia. He joins his grandmother Roseann Svien, great-grandparents Mary Louise and James Svien, his uncle Michael Svien, and his cousin Ava Svien, who preceded him in death.
A celebration of life honoring Gavin’s memory is scheduled for July 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hudson Rod and Gun Club, the same place where he spent so much time building friendships and discovering his love of the outdoors.
As news of his passing spreads through Hudson, family, coaches, teammates, and coworkers are sharing memories of a teenager who left a mark far beyond his years, remembered for his laughter, his loyalty, and the genuine care he showed everyone around him.
