Iron Range Parent Speaks Out After 8-Year-Old Hit With Racial Slur at North Star Park — 3rd Incident Reported

A mother on the Iron Range is demanding answers after her 8-year-old son was called a racial slur by two children at North Star Park.

According to the anonymous post shared in the Facebook group Alerting the Citizens of the Iron Range, this is not an isolated event. It is the third time these same children have been identified in racial bullying incidents at the same location.

The mother wrote that her son approached her after being harassed by a girl and her older brother while playing at the park. The girl was described as wearing a pink dress and riding a bike.

When the mother attempted to speak with the older brother and ask for a parent to contact, he responded with profanity and refused to cooperate. The family is said to live in Pine Mill, and police have reportedly been called to their home on multiple occasions.

“He’s a child for gods sake and he just wanted to play at the park,” the mother wrote in her post, expressing heartbreak over seeing her son upset because of the color of his skin.

Community Responds With Frustration and Calls for Parental Accountability

The post drew swift reaction from Iron Range residents, with many pointing the finger directly at parents for allowing this kind of behavior to develop at home.

Anonymous participant 612, who identified as a school administrator on the Range, said posts like this highlight a frustration schools face regularly.

Chris Mariucci agreed, writing that everyone wants schools to fix the problem, but that it starts at home and with parents.

ExhilaratingSeahorse619, who said they worked in a school for over ten years, echoed that sentiment, saying schools are treated as a cure-all for problems that originate in the household.

BrilliantSunflower7153 added that no child is born racist and that this kind of hatred is learned, noting that the parents of these children will likely do nothing about it.

Political Finger-Pointing Divides the Comment Section

Not everyone kept the conversation focused on the family involved. Trish Grahek Durie drew a connection between the incident and the current political climate, suggesting that white supremacy is being normalized from the top down. Doreen Neuenschwander Benz agreed with that view.

However, SunnyMouse769 pushed back, questioning whether racism truly began with any one president and pointing out that it has existed long before current politics. Sandra Nairn redirected the conversation by saying the behavior is taught by parents, not politicians.

Dale Torma weighed in, saying that current politics has made racism feel acceptable again for certain groups.

The thread then splintered further when an anonymous participant 547 brought up antisemitism, claiming Democrats have normalized hatred toward Jewish people. Rory King followed up by accusing the left of weaponizing the word racist.

Dale Torma responded by distinguishing between Zionism and Jewish identity, while Rory King closed by making an unsubstantiated claim about Democrats funding the KKK.

What started as a mother’s cry for justice for her child quickly became a mirror of the larger divisions tearing through American communities. The child at the center of it all simply wanted to play at the park.
