Kiel, WI Teen Kaitlynn Reinhardt, 17, Dies in Fond du Lac County Car Crash, Leaving Parents Without Their Only Child

The small city of Kiel, Wisconsin, is grieving the sudden loss of one of its own after a fatal car accident claimed the life of 17-year-old Kaitlynn Reinhardt on the evening of Saturday, June 13, 2026.

The teenager, described by those who knew her as full of life and warmth, was the only child of Jason Reinhardt and Elizabeth Jannusch. She had just completed her junior year at Kiel High School.

According to her obituary published by Meiselwitz-Vollstedt-DeTroye Funeral Home, Kaitlynn was born on October 7, 2008, in Sheboygan. She attended Trinity Lutheran School in Kiel and Manitowoc Lutheran before enrolling at Kiel High School, where she was known to her classmates and teachers alike.

In recent months, she had been working at Millhome Supper Club. Friends say she enjoyed shopping and spending time with the people she loved.

Her favorite pastime, by all accounts, was simply going for a drive, whether alone or alongside friends, a detail that carries particular weight given the circumstances of her passing.

Several of Kaitlynn’s friends were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. By what her family described as the grace of God, the others survived.

A Community Rallies Around a Grieving Family

In the days following the accident, family friend Jenn Haneman launched a GoFundMe campaign on behalf of Kaitlynn’s father, Jason Reinhardt, to help cover funeral expenses and ease the financial burden on the couple during an unimaginable time.

The campaign, titled “Honoring Kaitlynn’s Bright Spirit,” set an initial goal of $6,000.

Within days, it had surpassed $20,000, drawing 151 donations from community members, friends, and strangers moved by the story. A single anonymous donor contributed $10,000 alone.

“Parents don’t think this type of tragedy will ever occur to them, so oftentimes they’re ill-prepared financially,” Haneman wrote in the campaign description. “Her grieving parents deserve to be able to focus on surrounding themselves with love and support while they navigate this unimaginable loss.”

A Final Farewell

A Service of Hope and Comfort is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, located at 387 Cemetery Road in Kiel.

Visitation will be held earlier that morning from 8:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., followed by a brief family devotion before the service begins.

Kaitlynn is survived by her parents, Libby and Jason, her grandparents, Luther and Karen Jannusch, Peggy and Ron Lauersdorf, and several aunts, uncles, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Steven Reinhardt.

Those wishing to offer condolences, send flowers, or sign the online guestbook may do so through the funeral home’s website at meiselwitzfh.com. Those who wish to support the family financially can find the GoFundMe campaign by searching “Honoring Kaitlynn’s Bright Spirit” on gofundme.com.
