Man Found Shot Dead on Porch in West Point, Suspect Flees in Maroon Sedan

A shooting in a West Point neighborhood left one man dead Saturday evening, with the suspect still at large as of late Saturday night. The incident unfolded around 6:25 p.m. near 150 North 2000 West, drawing a massive police response that blocked off portions of the road while authorities investigated.

Officers from the Davis County Sheriff’s Office arrived to find a man dead on a porch. His identity has not been released, and no arrests have been made in connection with the killing.

A medical transport helicopter also landed near the West Point Smith’s Marketplace following the incident, and witnesses at the scene reported seeing at least one victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

Bystanders described seeing a maroon sedan fire several gunshots at a house in the area leading up to the police response. Approximately 15 units set up tape near a nearby Del Taco restaurant as the investigation got underway.

Vehicle Description and Public Warning

The Davis County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect vehicle as a maroon sedan with an orange cover over its rear license plate. The car was last seen traveling northbound on 2000 West before turning eastbound onto 300 North.

Authorities have urged the public not to approach the vehicle under any circumstances and to instead call the Davis County Sheriff’s Office dispatch line at 801-451-4150 immediately if spotted.

Spokesperson Megan Maybee confirmed the timeline of the shooting and the vehicle description during a media briefing Saturday evening. Officials indicated they would release a depiction of the vehicle to help the public identify it.

Parts of 2000 West remained closed Saturday night as investigators worked the scene. No description of a suspect has been publicly released, and authorities have not confirmed whether the shooting was targeted or random.

Community on Edge

The shooting rattled the quiet residential neighborhood, bringing neighbors outside to watch as emergency vehicles flooded the streets.

The heavy police presence and the deployment of a medical helicopter underscored the seriousness of the incident. Residents gathered near the police tape as authorities worked through the evening hours.

West Point is a small city in Davis County, just north of Salt Lake City, generally known for its quiet suburban character. A killing of this nature is uncommon in the community, and the fact that the suspect remained unidentified and at large late into the night added to the unease among residents.

The Davis County Sheriff’s Office has taken the lead on the investigation and has not indicated whether any witnesses have provided descriptions of the shooter or additional details about what led to the gunfire.

Anyone with information about the maroon sedan or the shooting is strongly encouraged to contact the Davis County Sheriff’s Office at 801-451-4150. Authorities continue to actively investigate the case.

This is a developing story, and additional details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
