Multiple School Violence Incidents Reported in Forsyth County, Officials Respond

Authorities in Forsyth County are investigating a series of violent incidents involving students from Winston-Salem and Forsyth County schools, raising concerns among parents, school staff, and the wider community.

The incidents, which occurred over several days in late April, involved multiple fights at different school locations and prompted responses from law enforcement, including the use of pepper spray in one case.

According to reports from the Winston-Salem Police Department, one of the incidents took place on April 24 near the Mt. Tabor bus lot.

The altercation involved students from Mt. Tabor High School and East Forsyth. During the confrontation, one individual required medical attention after being struck with a metal cup.

Deputies said students ignored repeated verbal commands to stop fighting, leading officers to deploy pepper spray to control the situation.

A second incident was reported on April 28, involving two female students. Authorities stated that during the response, one of the students kicked a deputy.

On the same day, officers also responded to another fight involving two male students, aged 14 and 15, which took place inside a classroom at Reagan High School.

Earlier in the month, on April 15, Glenn High School was the site of another serious incident where brass knuckles were reportedly involved.

These events have added to growing concerns about safety in and around school campuses across the country.

Officials also pointed to previous tragic cases that continue to weigh heavily on the community. In December 2025, a student died following a stabbing incident at North Forsyth High School.

The district attorney later determined the act to be self-defense or accidental and did not file charges. In another case in September 2021, a student was killed after being shot by a fellow student at Mt. Tabor High School.

Following the recent wave of incidents, law enforcement officials have reiterated that violence in schools will not be tolerated.

Major J.A. Foster of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office stated that student safety remains a top priority and that strict measures are being taken to address disruptive and dangerous behavior.

Community Reactions and Concerns Over Youth Behavior

The repeated incidents have sparked strong reactions within the community, with many residents expressing concern over what they see as a troubling pattern of youth violence.

Parents and community members have taken to social platforms to debate the root causes and possible solutions.

Some believe the issue begins at home, emphasizing the importance of parental responsibility and discipline.

Others argue that schools and community programs must also play a stronger role in guiding young people.

Several commenters stressed the need for students to be engaged in structured activities such as sports, arts, and mentorship programs to reduce idle time and negative influences.

There were also differing views on discipline and school safety policies, with some calling for stricter consequences for violent behavior, while others highlighted the importance of addressing bullying and peer pressure as contributing factors.

Despite differing opinions, many agree that the issue is complex and cannot be attributed to a single cause.

The combination of home environment, school climate, social pressures, and access to positive role models was frequently mentioned as part of a broader solution.

As investigations continue, school officials and law enforcement agencies are expected to review safety procedures and consider additional measures to prevent further incidents.

The recent events have underscored ongoing concerns about maintaining a safe learning environment for students across Forsyth County.
