New Braunfels Man Justin Medina, 35, Dies Suddenly; Family Starts Funeral Fundraiser

New Braunfels, Texas, residents are mourning the sudden loss of Justin Gabriel Medina, who passed away on June 23, 2026, at the age of 35.

Justin was born on July 1, 1990, in New Braunfels to parents Richard G. Medina and Agnes M. Camareno, and he spent his life rooted in the community he called home.

According to an obituary posted by Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home in New Braunfels, Justin is survived by his mother, Agnes Camareno, his father, Richard Medina, his daughter, Ariel Medina, and several brothers.

Friends and family have been sharing memories and condolences online since news of his passing spread earlier this week.

In the wake of this unexpected loss, Justin’s cousin, Loretta Chapman of San Antonio, has started a GoFundMe campaign titled “In Loving Memory of Justin Medina” to help the family manage funeral and memorial expenses. The fundraiser was created two days ago and has a goal of $5,000.

“Today our family suffered an unexpected and heartbreaking loss with the passing of our cousin, Justin Medina,” Chapman wrote in the fundraiser description.

She explained that the family created the page to help cover funeral and memorial costs during what she called a difficult time, and asked supporters to consider donating or sharing the campaign even if they are unable to give themselves. She closed her message by thanking the community for its love, support, and kindness.

Community Members Step Forward to Donate

As of this report, the fundraiser has collected $450 toward its $5,000 goal from six donors. Early contributors include Jesster Boyce, who gave $300, along with Dillon Jackola, Joshua Guzman, Tristan Woods, and two anonymous donors who each gave smaller amounts ranging from $20 to $25.

The outpouring, while modest so far, reflects the close-knit nature of the New Braunfels community and the relationships Justin built during his 35 years.

The fundraiser is listed under GoFundMe’s Funerals and Memorials category, a section of the platform commonly used by families facing the high costs associated with burial services, caskets, venue rentals, and other end-of-life expenses.

Funeral costs in Texas and across the country have continued to climb in recent years, often leaving grieving families with thousands of dollars in unexpected bills on top of the emotional toll of losing a loved one.

Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, which is handling the arrangements, has not released additional details about a public memorial service at this time. Family members have indicated that more information will likely be shared through the funeral home’s Facebook page as plans are finalized.

For now, those who knew Justin Medina are being asked to keep his family in their thoughts and, if possible, contribute to the fundraiser organized by his cousin.

Donations of any size are being accepted through the GoFundMe page, and supporters who are unable to give financially are encouraged to share the campaign with others who may be able to help.

Justin leaves behind a daughter, parents, and brothers who are now left to navigate the days ahead without him, supported by a community rallying around them in a moment of shared grief.
