A teenage boy lost his life late Saturday night after being shot in a North Mankato neighborhood, and investigators are now asking the public for help tracking down a vehicle connected to the incident.
Officers from the North Mankato Police Department were dispatched around 11:03 p.m. on May 23, 2026, to the area of Pleasant View Drive and Willow Lane after residents reported hearing gunshots. Shortly after, police received word that a passenger vehicle had crashed into a townhome on Willow Trail.
When officers arrived, they found a 17-year-old male inside the vehicle with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
First responders pulled him from the car and began lifesaving measures on the scene. He was then transported by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, where he was later pronounced dead.
Father Identifies Victim, Speaks Out in Grief
While the North Mankato Police Department has not yet officially released the victim’s name, pending notification of all family members, his father came forward publicly on Facebook through a post on the GoodyZ Barbershop page.
In a heartbreaking message, he wrote that his son worked hard, hit the gym, and was growing into a man. He said his boy died standing up for his respect, and that he remains proud of him. He identified his son as Tyson Goodsell.
The outpouring of condolences in the comments section reflected just how deeply the loss has hit the community, with friends and neighbors expressing their sorrow for the family.
Police Seek Silver Chevrolet Impala, Investigation Ongoing
Detectives with the North Mankato Police Department do not believe this was a random attack, and they have stated there is no known threat to the general public at this time.
However, the investigation is still very much active, and authorities are looking for a key piece of evidence that may help crack the case.
Investigators are asking residents on Pleasant View Drive, Northridge Drive, and surrounding neighborhoods to pull up any home security or surveillance footage they may have from that night. Specifically, police are looking for a silver 2010 Chevrolet Impala that may have been seen in the area around the time of the shooting.
Anyone who has video of that vehicle or any other information related to this incident is asked to call the North Mankato Police Department at 507-625-7883 and request to speak with Lt. Brian Gangelhoff.
Several agencies responded to assist at the scene, including the Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office, the Mankato Police Department, the MN River Valley Drug Task Force, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The involvement of multiple agencies points to the seriousness with which law enforcement is treating this case.
The press release was issued by Chief Ross Gullickson on May 24, 2026, one day after the shooting. The investigation continues, and police have not yet announced any arrests or named any suspects.
