A 17-year-old from Randolph, New York, has died following a motorcycle and motor vehicle collision, leaving his family, friends, and community heartbroken over the sudden loss of a young life full of promise.
Skylar James Vincent See passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026, in the Town of Conewango.
According to his obituary published by VanRensselaer and Son Funeral Home in Randolph, arrangements are still being finalized and will be announced in the coming days.
The news hit especially hard for his father, Ryan See, who shared a deeply personal tribute on Facebook just hours after losing his son.
In his post, Ryan described Skylar as an amazing child who was growing into an extraordinary young man.
What made the loss even more difficult to process was that just two days before the crash, Skylar had said something to his father that Ryan is now holding close to his heart during this painful time.
“If something happens to me dad on my bike just know I was happy,” Skylar told his father.
The day before the fatal crash, Ryan and Skylar had completed a 100-mile motorcycle ride together, which turned out to be their final ride as father and son.
Ryan wrote that he never could have imagined that the trip would be the last one they shared. His post captured the grief of a parent who is searching for light in an unbearable darkness, and those words Skylar spoke two days before he died are now something his father is holding on to.
“You made me so proud with what an amazing child and young man you were becoming,” Ryan wrote. “The world was at your feet and it was taken.”
Friends and community members also began expressing their grief online. Douglas John, who knew Skylar, posted a simple but heartfelt tribute saying he was going to miss the kid and noted that perhaps Skylar’s dog had been waiting for him, a touching reflection on the bond between the teen and his pet.
Skylar was only 17 years old. By all accounts, he was a young man who embraced life with enthusiasm and was not afraid to go on adventures.
The fact that he and his father shared a 100-mile motorcycle ride just the weekend before his death speaks to the kind of experiences Skylar sought out and the close relationship he had with his dad.
The Town of Conewango, a rural area in Cattaraugus County, has seen its share of roadway tragedies over the years, and crashes involving motorcycles remain a serious concern across the region, particularly as warmer months bring more riders onto the roads.
Funeral services are being handled by VanRensselaer and Son Funeral Home, located at 14 Church Street in Randolph, New York.
The family has not yet released information about services, but those wishing to offer condolences can sign Skylar’s online guest book through Legacy.com.
