A family from Saint John, Indiana, is grieving the loss of two loved ones following a car accident in Tennessee that occurred as they were returning home from a vacation in Florida.
Cindy and her granddaughter Lucy died as a result of the crash, which happened on June 19. The accident also involved Meredith Allen, Cindy’s daughter, along with Meredith’s children, Mikey and Avery.
Mikey and Avery were treated for minor injuries and are now safe and recovering.
Mikey plays for the 8U team within the Indiana Bulls North baseball organization, and word of the tragedy spread quickly through the local youth sports community. The Indiana Bulls North Facebook page shared a message asking supporters to rally around the family, calling the loss heartbreaking and unimaginable.
The broader Indiana Bulls Baseball organization echoed that message, noting that Mikey’s grandmother and young sister had died in the crash while his other sister was treated for minor injuries.
Family friend Josh Caddick started a GoFundMe campaign called “Supporting Meredith After Tragic Loss” with Meredith’s permission to help cover funeral expenses and other costs the family now faces. In the campaign description, Caddick wrote that Cindy had been far more to Meredith than just her mother.
He described her as Meredith’s rock, her best friend, and a steady source of love and support. He also remembered Lucy as a child whose bright spirit, contagious smile, and joyful energy left a mark on everyone who knew her.
The fundraiser has drawn significant attention since it launched. As of this report, it had collected more than 84,000 dollars toward a 130,000 dollar goal, with over 500 individual donations from supporters.
Contributions have ranged from smaller gifts of around 100 to 200 dollars up to a single 5,000-dollar donation from Jesse and Mel Ryan, currently the largest gift to the campaign.
Caddick’s message on the fundraising page urged people to give what they could, no matter the amount, while also encouraging those unable to donate to simply share the campaign with others.
He thanked supporters in advance for keeping Meredith and her family in their thoughts during what he called an incredibly difficult time.
The Indiana Bulls North community has used its social media presence to keep the fundraiser visible, posting links and updates to encourage donations from parents, coaches, and players connected to the youth baseball league.
Comments and shares from the local sports network suggest the family is well known and well liked within the community, and that the loss has been felt widely beyond their immediate circle.
Funeral arrangements have not been publicly detailed, and the family has asked supporters to respect their privacy as they cope with the loss.
The GoFundMe page remains active, and organizers say funds raised will go toward funeral costs as well as helping stabilize the family financially in the months ahead.
As news of the crash continues to circulate among friends, teammates, and community members, supporters have repeatedly emphasized one message: that even in the face of devastating loss, a community coming together can offer real comfort.
For Meredith Allen and her children, that support now arrives in the form of donations, shared posts, and the simple act of keeping them in mind during an unimaginable time.
