Greg McCurry, a fixture of the Kansas cattle industry for decades, died on June 19, 2026, at the age of 69.
Born June 13, 1957, McCurry spent his life dedicated to the Angus breed, earning the respect of breeders across Kansas and beyond through his decades of involvement in the industry.
McCurry’s connection to the Angus community began early. He was a member of the Kansas Junior Angus Association before moving on to the Kansas Angus Association, where he eventually served as president in 1994.
His leadership continued well into recent years, when he was appointed to the board of directors of the American Angus Association.
The Kansas Angus Association credited him with leaving a legacy that spanned decades, noting his unwavering dedication to the breed and his steady support of fellow breeders throughout the region.
McCurry was also connected to McCurry Brothers Angus, a name well known among cattle producers in the area.
Friends and colleagues in the agricultural community have described him as a true cowboy, someone whose work ethic and character left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed his path.
Family Recalls a Life of Constant Support
Beyond his professional accomplishments, those closest to McCurry remember him as a steady and loving presence in their personal lives.
Hunter Royer, who described knowing McCurry and his wife Pam for all 23 years of his life, shared a heartfelt tribute online following the news of his passing.
Royer said it was difficult to put into words the impact McCurry had on him, explaining that he had never known life without McCurry and Pam in it.
He described McCurry as a constant figure who cheered him and Sophie on through every stage and accomplishment of their lives.
According to Royer, McCurry taught him more lessons than he likely realized, and much of who Royer has become is owed to the time spent learning from him.
Royer admitted he does not yet know what life will look like without McCurry, but said he remains thankful for every memory, conversation, and year spent learning from him, looking up to him, and being loved by him.
Royer called McCurry one of the best men he has ever known, praising him as the embodiment of a true cowboy and an even better person.
He closed his tribute by saying he would miss McCurry more than words could express, but that he would carry forward the lessons and example McCurry set for the rest of his life, wishing him well riding horses in heaven.
The Kansas Angus Association also extended its condolences to the McCurry family, offering prayers during this time of loss and honoring his decades of service to the organization and the broader Angus community.
Funeral services for Greg McCurry are scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2026. The service will begin at 10 a.m. at WestLink/Pathway Church, located at 2001 N.
Maize Road in Wichita, Kansas. A lunch will follow at the church immediately after the service. A graveside service will take place afterward at 2 p.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery, located at 28700 W. 93rd Street North.
McCurry is remembered by family, friends, and the wider Kansas agricultural community as a devoted leader whose influence on the Angus breed and the people around him will continue to be felt for years to come.
