Taylorsville Baseball Community Mourns Loss of Conner Franco After Tragic I-80 Crash

A tragic late-night crash on Interstate 80 in Salt Lake City has left the Taylorsville High School community mourning the loss of Conner Franco, a 20-year-old former student-athlete remembered for his time on the school’s baseball team and his presence among teammates and friends.

According to Utah Highway Patrol and reports from Fox 13 Salt Lake City, the fatal collision occurred around 10:23 p.m. near 7200 West on westbound I-80.

Authorities reported that multiple vehicles were involved, including two that blocked traffic lanes and others that ended up in the ditch.

One vehicle overturned during the crash, and a semi-truck was also found nearby.

Emergency responders confirmed that two people died at the scene, while several others were transported to local hospitals with injuries. Officials have stated that the investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.

One of the victims was identified as Conner Franco of Tooele. The second fatality was a 17-year-old male whose name has not been released publicly.

News of Franco’s passing quickly spread through the Taylorsville High School community, where he had been part of the varsity baseball program.

Franco, who graduated with the Class of 2024, played as an outfielder for Taylorsville High School baseball. During his time with the program, he wore jersey number 25 and contributed to the team across multiple games throughout the season.

His stats from the 2024 season show appearances in several matchups, including games against Brighton, Granger, Hunter, and other Utah high school teams.

While his role on the field varied, teammates and coaches noted his commitment to the program and his willingness to support the team in different capacities.

In one of the season highlights, Taylorsville secured a dominant win over Granger High School with a 17 to 0 score.

Franco also recorded contributions in other games where he showed steady effort at the plate and in the field.

Though the team experienced a challenging season overall, his involvement remained consistent throughout the spring schedule.

Beyond athletics, Franco was described by those close to the program as part of the broader Taylorsville baseball family, someone who remained connected to teammates even after graduation.

His sudden passing has prompted an outpouring of grief from classmates, coaches, and community members.

In response to the tragedy, members of the Taylorsville baseball community have begun organizing support for Franco’s family.

A message shared by Becky Pugmire noted that the family is facing emotional and financial difficulties following the accident.

The family has expressed gratitude for any assistance, and a Venmo account has been shared for those wishing to contribute. Community members have also been encouraged to keep the family in their thoughts during this difficult time.

As investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash, friends and former teammates are focusing on remembering Conner Franco for his time on the field and his connection to the Taylorsville community.

The loss has deeply affected those who knew him, particularly within the school’s baseball program, where his presence will be remembered long after his final season.
