Residents in Surprise are voicing concern after a local mother shared a troubling encounter involving teenagers allegedly throwing rocks at passing vehicles near Greenway Road and Bullard Avenue.
According to a Facebook post shared by Emily Ellen in the “Surprise Community and Family” group, the incident happened while she was driving with her elementary school-aged daughter in the car.
Ellen said a group of teenagers walking in the area began throwing rocks at vehicles, with her own car being struck multiple times.
“I’m not one to usually post anything,” Ellen wrote. “But parents of teenagers PLEASE have a talk with your kids about respecting other people’s property.”
She stated that her vehicle was hit by at least four rocks during the incident. Although the damage was reportedly minimal, Ellen stressed that the situation could have been far worse.
“Even my daughter in elementary school that was also in the car knows that it is wrong and dangerous to do that,” she added.
Ellen later confirmed that police were contacted regarding the incident and noted that several others also made reports.
In another comment, she said one teenager allegedly looked directly at her before throwing a rock at her vehicle while she was stopped.
The post quickly drew attention from residents across the community, many of whom expressed frustration and concern over the reported behavior.
Maryann Aguilar urged immediate action, writing,
“Call the police right then and there. Make a report and follow them to see where they go.”
Debra Lopez commented, “Kids nowadays have no respect,” while Kathy Noonan Schultz replied that she regularly finds small rocks scattered around her street from children throwing them.
Some residents discussed the possible legal consequences of such actions.
Steven Elias wrote that incidents like this could range “from a misdemeanor to a felony” depending on the circumstances and whether injuries or major damage occur.
Others focused on parental responsibility. Bryan Littrell commented, “Well most likely the parents don’t respect people either that’s why we’re in this situation.”
Several commenters also shared emotional reactions about how they would respond if their own vehicles were damaged. Kathy Hoyt said she would have pulled over, called the police, and held the parents responsible for repairs.
Geena Hale commented that she would have followed the teens while contacting authorities.
Another resident, Viorica Suciu, encouraged people to install cameras in their vehicles or around their homes to help document incidents and provide evidence to police if similar situations happen again.
The discussion sparked a broader conversation about neighborhood safety and teen behavior in Surprise. Some residents noted that throwing rocks at moving vehicles is not only vandalism but can also create dangerous driving conditions that could potentially lead to crashes or injuries.
While no injuries were reported in the incident described by Ellen, many residents said the situation highlights the importance of addressing reckless behavior before it escalates further.
As of now, no suspect information or arrests related to the reported rock-throwing incident near Greenway and Bullard have been publicly released. Community members say they hope increased awareness and police involvement will help prevent similar incidents in the future.
