Gage Michael McCoy, age 22, of Pontiac, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 5:03 p.m. at his residence in Pontiac. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was remembered by those closest to him as a loving son, a devoted brother, and someone who valued the connections he built throughout his life. Though his time was far too short, the impact he made on his family and friends will continue to be cherished for years to come.
Born on April 1, 2004, in Pontiac, Gage was the son of Michael McCoy and Jennifer Butcher McCoy, who both reside in Pontiac.
He was welcomed into the family as their firstborn child and the first grandchild on both sides of the family, a role that brought immense joy to his loved ones.
He shared a close bond with his younger brother, Trevor McCoy, of Pontiac. Gage also leaves behind many relatives, including his maternal grandparents Jess and Kathy Butcher Jr. of Sparland, Illinois, and his paternal grandmother Fleda McCoy of Murphysboro, Illinois.
He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and a close friend often considered a brother, Kolin Cox. He was also deeply attached to his dog, Rylee, who brought him companionship and comfort.
Gage graduated from Pontiac Township High School in 2022 and later attended Heartland Community College. Following his education, he developed an interest in accounting and began working in bookkeeping at County Market.
He later advanced in his career and was employed as a Credit Analyst at the Bank of Pontiac, a position he was proud of and dedicated to. His work ethic and willingness to learn were qualities that stood out to those who worked alongside him.
Outside of his professional life, Gage had a wide range of interests that reflected his energetic and curious personality. He enjoyed online gaming with friends and spent time listening to music as a way to relax.
He also enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, golfing, shooting, and playing basketball. Staying active at the gym was part of his routine, and he had a genuine appreciation for anime and Chinese food.
He was a passionate fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and followed their games with enthusiasm. In his younger years, he attended a youth group at Authentic Church, where he formed early friendships and positive experiences.
Gage will be remembered for his sense of humor, his loyalty to those he cared about, and the many memories he created with family and friends. His presence brought joy to those around him, and his absence is deeply felt by many who loved him.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Services are pending at this time, and arrangements are being handled by Duffy Baier Snedecor Funeral Home in Pontiac, Illinois.
