Brewer Woman, 58, Darcel Geiser, Killed in I-95 Rollover Crash in Newburgh, Maine

A 58-year-old Brewer woman lost her life Saturday afternoon after her vehicle left Interstate 95 in Newburgh and rolled over multiple times, according to Maine State Police. The crash has left family, friends, and the broader Brewer community in mourning as they remember Darcel Geiser, a woman described by those who knew her as deeply loved and sorely missed.

Troopers were called to the scene at approximately 1:30 p.m. near mile marker 174, just north of the Exit 174 on-ramp.

According to investigators, Geiser was traveling northbound in the passing lane when her vehicle departed the roadway and rolled over several times. Emergency responders had to work to extricate her from the vehicle after she became trapped inside. Despite their efforts, Geiser was pronounced dead at the scene.

Maine State Police confirmed that Geiser was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Authorities have not yet released a definitive cause for why the vehicle left the road, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Officials have also stated they could not confirm whether the fatal crash was connected to a separate incident that occurred later that same afternoon on I-95, which involved a vehicle fire and shut down all northbound lanes in the Carmel area.

A Community Left Grieving

News of Geiser’s death has rippled through the Brewer community, with friends and acquaintances taking to social media to share their condolences and fond memories. One friend, Katie Petley, wrote a heartfelt tribute expressing her love and grief.

“Rest in peace Darcel Geiser, you will be missed. I truly love you. I’m going to miss you, my friend,” she wrote, capturing the raw sorrow felt by many who knew Geiser personally.

The outpouring of grief reflects just how significant a presence Geiser had in the lives of those around her.

At 58 years old, she leaves behind a community that valued her deeply, and the circumstances of her passing have prompted many to reflect on road safety and the critical importance of wearing a seatbelt every time someone gets behind the wheel.

A Reminder About Road Safety

Crashes involving unrestrained drivers consistently account for a significant portion of traffic fatalities across the country, and Saturday’s tragedy in Newburgh is a stark reminder of the life-saving role a seatbelt plays.

Safety advocates and law enforcement agencies regularly emphasize that buckling up remains one of the simplest and most effective ways to survive a serious crash.

Maine State Police continue to investigate the exact circumstances that led to Geiser’s vehicle leaving the roadway. Anyone with information about the crash near mile marker 174 on Saturday afternoon is encouraged to contact the Maine State Police.

Darcel Geiser of Brewer is remembered with love by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
