Honolulu, Hawaii Shooting Leaves One Dead and Another Injured After Separate Ala Moana Incidents

Two separate shootings in Honolulu’s Ala Moana area early Sunday morning left one man dead and another injured, prompting ongoing investigations by the Honolulu Police Department.

Authorities said the incidents occurred less than a mile apart, but investigators do not believe they are connected.

First Shooting Follows Large Fight on Hopaka Street

The first shooting was reported around 3:45 a.m. on June 14 at a business located on Hopaka Street. According to police, officers responded after receiving reports of a large fight involving numerous people attending a concert at the venue.

Investigators said gunfire erupted during the disturbance. Witnesses reported hearing additional shots as people fled the area following the initial confrontation.

Emergency medical personnel treated a 24-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care. Officials have not released details regarding the extent of his injuries.

As the investigation progressed, police identified and arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the shooting. The suspect was taken into custody on allegations of second-degree attempted murder and multiple firearm-related offenses.

The suspect’s identity has not yet been publicly released. Detectives continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses to determine exactly what led to the violence.

Honolulu police urged anyone who may have recorded video or witnessed the incident to come forward with information that could assist investigators.

Second Shooting Reclassified as Murder Investigation

Just over an hour after the Hopaka Street incident, officers were alerted to another shooting near the intersection of Keeaumoku Street and Kapiolani Boulevard.

Police said an officer was flagged down around 4:53 a.m. after reports of a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, identified only as a 23-year-old man, was found bleeding at the scene.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services immediately began life-saving efforts before transporting the victim to a hospital in critical condition.

Initially, investigators opened the case as attempted murder in the second degree. However, police later confirmed that the victim died from his injuries on Sunday evening.

Following the man’s death, the investigation was officially reclassified as murder in the second degree.

As of Monday, no arrests had been announced in connection with the fatal shooting. Detectives continue to examine evidence and pursue leads in an effort to identify those responsible.

Police officials emphasized that there is currently no indication that the Keeaumoku Street shooting is linked to the earlier gunfire on Hopaka Street. Both investigations remain active and separate.

The violence has raised concerns among residents and visitors in the busy Ala Moana district, an area known for its shopping centers, restaurants, nightlife, and residential communities.

Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding either shooting to contact 911 or Honolulu CrimeStoppers at 808-955-8300. Tips may help investigators piece together the circumstances surrounding the incidents and bring those responsible to justice.

The Honolulu Police Department has not released additional information about possible motives in either case. Further updates are expected as investigators continue their work.
