Powerlifting Community Loses a Beloved Brother: Friends Rally to Support Roy Somers’ Family

The strength and powerlifting community is grieving the sudden loss of Roy Somers, a beloved husband, father, friend, and respected figure whose presence touched countless lives.

Roy passed away recently, leaving behind his wife Tara and two daughters.

Friends, former colleagues, and fellow lifters have flooded social media with tributes describing a man who was, in the words of one close friend, simply “everywhere” and always the constant in every room he entered.

A Man Who Left a Mark on Everyone He Met

Paul Brown, a longtime friend of Roy’s, shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook that resonated deeply with those who knew him. Brown described the news as something that took the wind out of him entirely, leaving him walking through the day in a daze rather than processing grief in his usual emotional way.

He called Roy an “Anchor Being,” a rare kind of person whose steady, warm presence seemed to hold the fabric of a community together.

“I knew Roy for longer than I can ever remember, and he was always just everywhere. He was the constant,” Brown wrote, recalling decades of chance encounters and meaningful conversations.

He described every random run-in with Roy as a genuinely great exchange, the kind that could be quick or stretch on longer than expected, depending on who was tagging along.

It was only after the two finally spent a proper evening together watching AEW at Boardwalk Hall that Brown said he truly understood why so many people loved Roy without question.

Brown described him as a man with a heart of gold, an unstoppable work ethic, and a truly remarkable commitment to his family and friends.

Comments poured in from former coworkers, childhood acquaintances, and members of the wider community, all echoing the same sentiment.

One commenter noted they had never even met Roy personally but had seen enough from other people’s memories to know he was, simply put, a genuinely great person.

Fundraiser Launched to Support Roy’s Wife and Daughters

In the wake of his passing, the powerlifting equipment company F8 Customs stepped forward to organize a memorial raffle to raise money directly for Roy’s family.

The raffle runs through July 1st and features a full set of F8 Platinum Bars, including a bench bar, squat bar, and deadlift bar as the prize. Every fifteen dollars donated earns one raffle entry, with additional entries available for those who choose to give more.

All donations can be made through F8powerlifting.com/roysomers, and organizers are urging the lifting community to share the post widely and tag fellow lifters to help spread the word.

The message behind the raffle is straightforward: Roy supported others throughout his life, and now it is time for the community to support the family he left behind.

Tributes from Instagram and Facebook continue to grow as word spreads. Friends described Roy as someone who was way too young to be gone, a man who talked hardcore music and iron with equal passion, and someone who simply made the world around him better by being in it.

Roy Somers is survived by his wife, Tara, and their two daughters. The community he helped build is rallying around his family in his memory.
