Purvis, Mississippi Native and Elvis Tribute World Champion Michael Chambliss Passes Away in Pigeon Forge

Michael Kevin Chambliss, an acclaimed Elvis tribute artist and seasoned entertainer who spent decades bringing joy to audiences across the American South and beyond, has passed away.

The news of his death spread quickly through the entertainment community, with tributes pouring in from fellow performers, fans, and friends who remembered him as a man of deep faith, extraordinary talent, and genuine warmth.

Chambliss, who called Pigeon Forge, Tennessee home and was originally from Purvis, Mississippi, built a career that spanned more than two decades on some of the most recognizable stages in the region.

He performed at Silver Dollar City as early as 2000, sang as lead vocalist with the Cumberland Quartet, and served as entertainer and host at the Tennessee Shindig Theatre. Over the years he also performed at Legends in Concert, the Grand Majestic Theater, Pierce Arrow, Live from Pigeon Forge, and most recently at Memories Theatre and Rock-A-Hula Hawaii in the period leading up to his death.

His journey into Elvis tribute artistry came after years of versatile performing. Fellow entertainer Jay Dupuis, who met Chambliss in 2011 at the Tennessee Shindig in Pigeon Forge, recalled that at the time Chambliss was performing a Garth Brooks tribute rather than an Elvis show.

Dupuis, a Louisiana native working his first full-time job as an Elvis tribute artist, credits Chambliss as the one friend who made those early days bearable. The two spent weekends together in nearby Gatlinburg, forming a bond that lasted years. When Dupuis’s contract ended and he returned home, Chambliss stepped into the Elvis tribute role at the theater, a transition Dupuis believes he had a small part in inspiring.

A Voice That Moved People and a Faith That Defined Him

Those who knew Chambliss consistently pointed to two things above all else: the power of his voice and the sincerity of his Christian faith. Fellow performer Cote Deonath described his voice as rich, powerful, and smooth as velvet, adding that there is a little bit of Chambliss in every performance he gives because of the way Michael inspired so many around him.

Deonath wrote that Chambliss taught him what could truly be done with a God-given gift of music, and that he believed in people, encouraged them, and lifted them up without hesitation.

In 2014, Chambliss earned the title of Images of the King World Champion, one of the most recognized honors in the Elvis tribute world. He was also a recipient of the Heart of the King award, recognizing not just his performance ability but the spirit he brought to everything he did.

Beyond the stage, friends and colleagues described a man who showed up for people. He was remembered as a mentor, a husband, a brother, and someone who was simply always there when needed. His wife Samantha and his mother, Ms. Joyce, were frequently mentioned in tributes as people who now carry the weight of this loss and for whom the community has asked for prayers.

Sherry Redell, who shared the initial announcement, described Chambliss as a vibrant spirit whose presence was a light that touched countless lives.

She wrote that his memory should be held like a gentle golden sunset, warm and peaceful, and that his song will play on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Michael Kevin Chambliss is survived by his wife Samantha, his mother Ms. Joyce, and an extended family and community of performers and fans who will not soon forget the voice, the man, or the faith that defined him.
