Later, he transitioned into business ownership, purchasing The Frog Tavern and the SS Lillypad, two beloved establishments on Lake Wawasee.

In 2025, Shoemaker was honored as Commodore of Lake Wawasee, a recognition that underscored his deep involvement in local traditions and his commitment to preserving the spirit of the lake community.
