Palestine, Texas, woman Felisha Roe killed in Early Morning Rollover on I-49 in Louisiana

A 40-year-old Texas woman lost her life in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 21, 2026, after her vehicle rolled over and tumbled down an embankment on Interstate 49 in Natchitoches Parish.

Louisiana State Police Troop E and the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate what caused the deadly single-vehicle crash.

Felisha Roe of Palestine, Texas, was driving northbound on I-49, north of Natchitoches near the Ajax area, when the crash occurred at approximately 2:58 a.m.

For reasons that remain under investigation, Roe lost control of her 2026 Nissan, which veered off the roadway and overturned. The vehicle came to rest down an embankment near a bridge.

When Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies and emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, they located the vehicle at the bottom of the embankment with Roe still inside.

Despite the response of emergency crews, there was nothing that could be done to save her. Natchitoches Parish Coroner Steven Clanton arrived at the scene and pronounced Roe dead.

Louisiana State Police confirmed that Roe was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Routine toxicology samples were collected and submitted for laboratory analysis as part of standard crash investigation protocol.

The results of those samples are pending and will factor into the broader investigation.

Investigators Urging All Drivers to Buckle Up

In the aftermath of the crash, Louisiana State Police Public Affairs Section Master Trooper Casey Wallace issued a statement urging drivers and passengers to always wear their seat belts, regardless of the distance they plan to travel or the time of day.

“While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury,” Wallace said. “Always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.”

The statement reflects a consistent message that law enforcement agencies across Louisiana push throughout the year, particularly as traffic fatalities tied to unrestrained occupants continue to be a concern on the state’s highways and interstates.

I-49 is a major north-south corridor running through central Louisiana, connecting Shreveport to the north and Lafayette to the south, and sees a steady flow of commercial and passenger traffic at all hours.

The exact circumstances leading up to Roe losing control of her vehicle remain unclear. Investigators have not released any information regarding road conditions, mechanical issues, or other contributing factors at this time.

The crash remains an open and active investigation between Louisiana State Police Troop E and the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Roe’s death is a sobering reminder of how quickly a morning drive can turn tragic. Seat belt usage remains one of the simplest and most effective tools available to reduce fatalities in traffic crashes.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seat belts reduce the risk of death for front-seat passenger vehicle occupants by 45 percent.

Anyone with information regarding this crash is encouraged to contact Louisiana State Police Troop E or the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office directly.
