Saratoga Springs Family Mourns the Loss of 2-Year-Old Luca Rose

Some lives, though brief, leave marks so deep that the world feels fundamentally different in their absence.

Luca Anthony Rose was two years old when he passed away unexpectedly on April 30, 2026, and yet in those two short years, he managed to do what many spend a lifetime trying to accomplish: he made everyone around him feel genuinely loved.

Born on October 15, 2023, Luca came into the lives of his parents, Christopher and Brittany Rose, as a second son and a natural companion to his older brother, Arlo.

From the very beginning, those who knew him described a child who seemed to understand, instinctively, that the world was a place worth greeting with open arms.

His bright blue eyes had a way of holding your attention, and his smile, by all accounts, was the kind that stayed with you long after you had left the room.

What made Luca remarkable was not something easily put into words. He was sociable in the way that very few children are, waving and calling hello to strangers and familiar faces alike, seemingly unaware that the world could be anything other than friendly.

He found his greatest joy in simple things: playtime with Miss Krissy, adventures in the everyday world around him, and most of all, the company of his big brother.

Arlo and Luca shared the particular bond that exists between siblings close in age, the kind built on shared laughter, invented games, and the unspoken understanding of childhood.

Food, too, was a language Luca spoke fluently. Family meals were not just occasions for eating but gatherings he seemed to understand as something sacred, moments where people came together, and connections deepened.

His giggles around the dinner table, his eagerness to be part of whatever was happening, made those ordinary evenings feel like celebrations.

The Rose family is grateful beyond words for the care shown by the Emergency Room staff at Saratoga Hospital and the first responders who gave everything they had on Luca’s behalf.

In their grief, Christopher and Brittany have channeled their gratitude into action, asking that those who wish to honor Luca consider making contributions to the Saratoga Hospital Foundation, Moreau EMS, the Signal 30 NYS Troopers Benefit Fund, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s community programs, or Schuylerville youth sports programs.

Each of these organizations represents the kind of community care and dedication that the Rose family experienced firsthand.

Luca is survived by his parents, Christopher and Brittany, his brother Arlo, his paternal grandparents, Michael and Suzanne Rose, his maternal grandmother, Mary Richards, and a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family who will carry him in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Charles Richards.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Clement’s Church in Saratoga Springs, followed by a Liturgy of the Word service at 7 p.m. Burial will remain private.

Luca Anthony Rose lived for two years. But the warmth he generated, the laughter he sparked, and the love he gave so freely will outlast every measure of time his family can imagine.
