Buffalo Grove Teen Antonio Crawford, 15, Found Dead in Chicago’s West Adams Apartment

A 15-year-old boy from Buffalo Grove was found dead inside a Chicago apartment early Saturday morning, prompting a death investigation by Chicago Police Department detectives that remains open as authorities await autopsy results.

Antonio Crawford, a teenager from the northwest suburb of Buffalo Grove, was discovered unresponsive inside a residence on the 2000 block of West Adams Street on the city’s West Side, an area situated just outside the well-known Fulton Market District.

Emergency personnel from both the Chicago Police Department and the Chicago Fire Department responded to the scene after receiving a call reporting an unresponsive person.

According to police radio traffic, the 911 call was made by Crawford’s sister, who reported finding her brother not breathing inside the apartment.

Responding officers noted he was cold to the touch, and he was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. Area Three Detectives were immediately called to begin a death investigation.

There was some initial confusion regarding the boy’s age. Chicago police officials originally reported the victim as a 16-year-old male, but the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed his identity and corrected his age to 15.

The discrepancy highlighted the fast-moving nature of the initial response and the difficulties that can arise when details are gathered under urgent circumstances.

The Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy on Crawford, though the results have not yet been released to the public.

As of this week, the cause and manner of death remain pending, and police officials have not publicly stated whether foul play is suspected in the case. The investigation is continuing as detectives work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.

Crawford was a resident of Buffalo Grove, a suburb located in Lake County approximately 30 miles northwest of downtown Chicago.

The community has roughly 40,000 residents and is generally regarded as a quiet, family-oriented area. News of the teenager’s death has understandably drawn attention from both suburban and city communities, particularly given his young age.

The location where Crawford was found sits in the Near West Side neighborhood of Chicago.

The surrounding area has undergone significant transformation in recent years, largely due to the expansion of the Fulton Market District, which has become one of the city’s most prominent entertainment and dining destinations.

The residential stretch of West Adams where the teen was found, however, remains a mix of apartment buildings and older housing stock, somewhat removed from the commercial activity nearby.

Authorities have provided limited details publicly, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. It is not uncommon for death investigations of this kind to take weeks or even months before a complete picture emerges, particularly when autopsy findings are central to determining what happened.

No arrests have been announced, and no suspects have been named publicly. The Chicago Police Department has not indicated whether the investigation has shifted in any particular direction since Crawford’s body was discovered.

For the Crawford family and the Buffalo Grove community, the days ahead will undoubtedly be difficult ones.

A 15-year-old boy lost his life under circumstances that remain unexplained, and those who knew him are left waiting for answers that investigators are still working to find. Anyone with information relevant to the case is encouraged to contact the Chicago police.
